6 Ways to Living the Good Life Without Breaking the Bank

the good lifeWe all want to get rich and live the “good life,” but too many times we put off having any fun while we chase this dream. That doesn’t have to be the case! More money may mean that you get to experience certain things that may be a bit out of your current reach, but there are things you can do no matter what your income level that will let you get a taste of the “good life” right now. Below, you’ll find six tips for improving your condition without emptying your piggy bank.

Hire A Chef – Yourself!

Instead of settling for TV dinners and fast food, take some time to expand your culinary repertoire. Look up recipes online, ask friends and family to share their favorites, or even enroll in a local cooking class to get some hands-on experience. You’ll get the benefit of eating better and also the pride that comes with acquiring a new skill set!

Barter, Don’t Buy

Do you have a particular set of skills (not those skills, Liam Neeson!) that other people would find useful? Don’t be afraid to offer those skills as payment to get things you want. The worst anyone can say is “No,” and then you’re right back where you started and no worse for trying.

Pay Attention To Specials

Sure, the fanciest restaurant in town may be a bit out of your price range, but that doesn’t mean you’ll never find yourself there. Look for special coupons good for “slow” nights, or grab a bite during the day, when you can usually get a cheaper lunch portion of your favorite meal.

Treat Yourself To A Free Vacation

If you have friends that are going out of town for a few days, offer to housesit for them. Treat their house like a mini vacation home and enjoy the break from your usual surroundings. If you have friends who are up for the idea, you could even swap houses for a week, just to change things up!

Win Things!

Sure, you’re not likely to win every contest you enter, but plenty of local businesses and radio stations give away tons of free stuff all year round! While it may not seem like much, a free meal at a nice restaurant, some free movie tickets, or a free massage could be just the pick-me-up you need when you’re having a bad day.

Participate In Community Events

There are tons of free events in every community, you just have to get out there and find them. Whether it’s a church group, community service group, or a group formed around a specific interest (think photography groups, book clubs, running groups, etc.), getting involved in a community organization is an inexpensive way to socialize and have a good time.
